Shinko pear trees have medium sized, oval and brownish green fruit.
Firm, crisp, apple-like flesh with a rich, sweet flavor. One of the best keeping Asian varieties, will store up to spring in cold storage.
Tree is precocious (early bearing), annual bearer.
Pollinate with Chojuro, 20th Century, Bartlett, Kikusui or Hosui. We usually have at least one of these in stock.
Good disease resistance.
Zones: 5-9 although this is not as cold hardy as many of our offerings, we have found that Asian pears are well worth the growing if you have the right zone. They bear early, heavily, and are very resistant to many pests and diseases. They are also some of the most interesting and beautiful trees in our orchard.

Growing trees in the Northeast has proved challenging. One of our main struggles has been with deer and other tree nibbling predators.
Not only were our orchard trees being nibbled and rubbed, but now the deer/rabbits/porcupines/voles and more were heading towards our nursery stock.
