Chinese Chestnut Seedling of Castanea mollissima
This chestnut from China is highly resistant to chestnut blight.
Bristly, apple-size burrs contain 3-7 medium to large, meaty, crisp nuts. Delicious roasted!
Slightly larger, but not quite as sweet as American Chestnut.
Low branched, round 40′ tree at maturity.
Bears in 3-5 years, life span is 30-80 years.
Self-pollinating, but produces better if cross-pollinated with another tree.
Prefers acidic, well-drained loamy soil. Ripens mid-late September. A good replacement for blight stricken American Chestnut.
Hardy in Zones 4-9
2-3′ bare root seedling
